An old friend of ours has a term for any item that is broken in to the state of perfection. A million dollar sweatshirt, for example, is that old, faded soft one which has torn, ratty cuffs and a pink paint stain on the sleeve from when you redecorated the 4-year-old's bedroom, but you wear it all the time anyway because it is your favorite one; it fits and feels just right.
This sweater is a million dollar sweater right out of the package.
It is lightweight but really warm, 100% lambswool. The yarn is ever-so-slightly rough but that will be remedied in the first washing. The colors are those of a friendly old pair of blue jeans - which is what I am wearing with it right now.
Only negative thing I can say about this sweater is that it doesn't come in any other colors or patterns. If it did, I'd buy a drawerful.
Do you have a million dollar sweater?

9 yarns:
Not at the moment, alas. I have in the past, but they (or the million dollar sweatshirts that I've had) have disintegrated into memory.
Yes, I do. Several years ago I went to the thrift store and bought a cashmere sweater for $1. It had one small hole in it and is dry clean only, but for $1, I didn't care. I have (finally) patched the holes (w/blue yarn, on a light gray sweater), and have been wearing it when it's cold. I LOVE this thing, and don't care if it looks bad...love this sweater.
My million dollar sweater is a navy blue top down raglan cardigan I knit for myself a few years ago. I wanted to try top down construction and Cascade 220 yarn. These two joined together made the perfect comfy casual cardigan. I wear more often than I should and have just started to worry that the cuffs are going to fray. My current plan for when the sweater reaches the worn out point is to rip it out and reknit the yarn into another top down cardigan.
I bought a bright red monogrammed hoodie off the "oops" rack at Land's End about 8 years ago for $3. I have worn it until the cuffs are ragged and it has bleach spots on both sleeves but it is so comfy and just right to wear over a shirt indoors in winter.
I don't, sadly. I never have. I've had a few million dollar shirts, all of which I wore until they literally fell apart.
Not a sweater, but definitely a sweatshirt. Got it in Orange Beach, AL while on vacation and I will cry when it falls apart.
I have a wool sweater my brother brought me back from Ireland. It's a charcoal colored cardigan and I have worn out and repaired the elbows until there's nothing left. I am going to make elbow patches to extend its life. So what if I look like a professor in an old movie. The sweater is warm and comfy.
Love it! I have no such favorite object in my wardrobe. I hate all my clothes!!
I have a couple that I will probably wear to death!
