Some of my newly adopted students seem to be settling in and adjusting to the inevitable changes and revised class requirements. Others? Not so much...

I couldnt make the last class can you please send me a copy of the test

Apparently, punctuation is entirely optional. Class attendance, however, is not. I noted as well that no reason nor excuse for his absence was offered.
I do not recall ever blowing off mandatory classes when I was student - graduate or undergraduate. If I was supposed to be in class, you can be sure my butt was firmly planted in one of those terribly uncomfortable plastic seats. I remember taking my physics final nearly delirious with a raging fever and barfing up dinner in the middle of my biology final. Seems that SMC does not subscribe to the same class attendance ethic as I.
Tough cookies, dude.

Ooh, I channeled my inner Carl on that one!

Umm can I get a copy of the test this next class and hand it in the following week?

Punctuation is slightly improved, although there still seems to be an irrational avoidance of the highly useful and user-friendly comma. Still no reason nor excuse for his absence provided.

Yes.

Laconic answers are much better than the knee-jerk tirade I thought in the privacy of my own grey matter.

OK thanks, i will see you next class.

Punctuation markedly improved but at the price of loss of ability to capitalize pronouns properly.

Not holding my breath on this one.

Love your responses! GP is teaching some labs this year and deals with the same kind of students. Unfortunately, he has not mastered the single-word reply yet. He's getting better, but he's still far nicer than I would be!
*shakes head*
Back when I was a young whippersnapper....
Hope that you won the american girl doll. I recently bought a springfield doll which is similar but much less expensive. Check out the AG knitting group on Ravelry.
SMC missed asking if full credit could be earned for a take home exam handed in a week late after missing class for no reason given. One wonders if SMC will be disappointed.
I Think I've just broken out in hives. It was the "i" that did it. What in the love of heaven is up with that?
I'm with Chris, "back when I was a young whippersnapper..."
This latest crop of college students seems to have perfected expecting a positive outcome with no input on their parts. I've noticed similar detachment in the ones who wander into the dive shop to get certified to scuba dive. I want to scream at them, "It's a life-support sport, you slacker!" but I don't because my mother raised me right. I applaud your self-control. (())
I do not miss my students this week. Not at all. But that gives me more time to send sympathetic thoughts your way!
my alma mater failed you if you missed more than "x" times per semester... the "x" was the # of times your class met per week...so if it was a 1X a week (4.5 hour) class, and you missed 2, you failed. 3X a week (1 hour), etc.
That same student will apply for a job in my office and then not understand why he has to be in by 9am to make the 9am meeting. *sigh* and why can't anyone wait for him? (you aren't the only one with 20-somethings this week!)
