What happened? There I was, posting fairly regularly from the beginning of the new year - pictures and everything - then a whopping four day silence. I really should make a post-knit night Monday Night Bullet Post...
- The cable/rib cardigan still does not have a zipper.
- Saturday night, while Number Guy went out with a friend to play pool and watch the football game, I had a couple of ladies come over to watch a movie and to do our craft things. Waiting for one of the ladies to arrive, I painstakingly hand-basted the zipper to the sweater.
- Despite my best effort, one side of the zipper ended up higher than the other side. Noticeably higher.
- I am half-tempted to staple the zipper into position.
- The sweater and zipper are currently considering their inability to play nicely with one another.
- Why, yes, I do realize that I am treating the naughty hand-knit and zipper like a pair of naughty children caught fighting with one another.
- At least it will be easy to remove the basting stitches when the time out is done: I used bright red thread.
- The lpsz came off the needles on Saturday. All done except for the blocking.
- Yep, just a week's knitting.
- Without a major project on the go, I was a little lost for a project last night. I thought about all of the leftover sock yarn floating around chex trek. Aha! A mitered squares blankie (Ravelry link).
- I watched several provisional cast on videos on YouTube, several times each. Couldn't get them to work.
- Finally went with Knit and Tonic's provisional long-tail cast on (pdf download link).
- Thirteen squares in twenty-four hours.
- Nice.

You are on a roll! Can't wait to see lpsz...
Somewhere I read a blog where they pinned the zipper in place while it was on the person, then basted it and tried it on again before final sewing. The idea was that it was better to have it look funny on the hanger than have it look funny while being worn.
At least you basted it first instead of jumping in and sewing it on right away. Oh no I've never jumped the gun on something like that. ;~)
Tamar's comment about zippers makes sense. Looking forward to the pictures of the squares
I can completely understand putting the zipper and sweater in timeout. Completely.
Well here is my 2 cents! LOL I have always had excellent luck getting a zipper in any stretchy fabric including knits nice and even by basting the two fronts together in the center first. If you want exposed zipper teeth then put something (I used some 1/4" vinyl tubing) between the halves and baste over and around it to enclose it in the opening. Then I carefully pinned the zipper on the inside, hand basted it in place then removed the basting between halves before double checking that it didn't ripple and did hang well. Only then did I do the final stitching!
Another week gone by for me...I keep hearing my mother say "ages and stages"!
There you are! I thought you had fled to warmer climes, not trusting the repaired boiler, or had been scrummed by college students.
Thanks for the link to the provisional cast-on. One that finally makes sense!
Can't wait to see your squares.
Okay, so maybe you haven't been posting - but at least you've been knitting!!! I haven't been doing much of either. *sigh*
We've enjoyed HD TV now (HD Tivo) for a few years, and are considering upgrading to Blu-Ray. Is it really worth it?
Sue,
I like your suggestion about basting the cardigan shut. Too bad this wasn't a steek-y sweater, eh?
Barbara,
Don't I just wish that I was on some warm sunny coast.
Kim,
The BluRay and HDTV is like looking through a very clean window.
You're doing better with project progress than I. Not pretty over here. Lots of knitting excuses. Less with the actual knitting.
Yay for miters! Boo for zippers that won't behave!
Did you tell the zipper and sweater that they would have to go in the naughty corner?
