I recently took Neatnik to one of the local thrift shops. We had a small bag of outgrown little girl clothes to donate and I need some new shorts.
Do you know how hard it is to buy shorts in August from a regular retailer? If they have anything left, it is on the clearance rack in the back of the store, where it has been picked over by eight million previous shoppers and they don't have your size anyway, so why bother?
The stores do have a plethora of wool slacks and coordinating winter blazers in stock now. Applying my amazingly powerful skills of deductive reasoning, I came to the logical conclusion that the stores used to have shorts. Back in March, I would guess.
If I had purchased shorts back in March, however, they would not fit me now and I would still be shopping for shorts in August. And I would have already blown my shorts budget.
The thrift store didn't have any shorts for me, either, but they did have a few things to seriously interest the Neatnik.

concert in early December: $3.00

First Holy Communion in May: $7.50
Not having to complete my pilgrimage round the bend dress shopping in November and April: priceless!

What cute dresses!!
Hmm. Did they at least have a belt for your current shorts? ;)
Way to score!
Have you tried discount stores like Ross! They would have summer stuff sent by retail stores now.
Adorable dresses! I just scored two huge boxes of adult clothes for me and my eldest from Freecycle. I've got my eyes peeled for kid's clothes now for my youngest two girls. I dont' get paid again until the end of October so new school clothes are out of the question. We have an excellent Goodwill store near our home too. Thank heavens!
Oh it's First HOly Communion Year! I can't wait!! Total precious overload!
Oh, such cute dresses! You're the prepared mama! I have similar shopping issues - breastfeeding has taken a lot out of me, if you know what I mean. Although where I live, it doesn't get hot in the summer so I could just buy jeans.
I was going to suggest Ross or Marshall's, too. They're always a season behind (not a bad thing). The dresses are cute! I always hated to spend a fortune on special occasion dresses for children who grow so fast. I was lucky and had three girls so our fancy clothes got a lot of wear. "The communion dress" was a dress from my brother's wedding that I altered slightly for each daughter to use for her cummunion. I was glad to get my money's worth out of it.
Those dresses are adorable.
Aw, poor Trek! The search for shorts in the summer but what a great reason to need to. Why do retailers stock like that? It's insane. It must work though.
We looooove the thrift shop! So many things and such bargains!
I guess it's maybe time for me to go, myself. Although I doubt I'll find anything as cute as Neatnik's new dresses.
We are totally looking forward to the 1HC. And Dad is way planning to go overboard. Embarrassingly overboard...
