Hey professor trek,
I just had a quick question, how many pages was out(sic) term paper suppose(sic) to be again? In the beginning of the semester I wrote down 2 pages, but I thought I heard you say 3 last week.
Thanks, Student With Conflicting Notes

I know what you're thinking. "Did she say three pages or only two?" Well to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I've kinda lost track myself... But, being this is a required course, one class which could blow your graduation hopes clean out of the water (not to mention credit transfers), you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, SWCN?*
Should I mention here that I went over the entire syllabus, including the term paper requirements on the first day of class? I might also mention that the "term paper" really isn't much more than a five paragraph essay accompanied by a bullet list, a table, and a cover page.

Three. And it is due next week.

Yes, I really did feel the need to remind SWCN that the paper is due next week. You see, they have a test tomorrow morning and I truly do not want SWCN to spend all night tonight working on those three loooong pages of term paper instead of studying for tomorrow's exam.

8 yarns:
Sheesh! Some peoples children! :) Is it really that difficult to pay attention? All my professors gave me a copy of the syllabus at the beginning of the class which I kept with my notebook & book for the class.
wow.. just wow. Even in grade school a three page term paper would have been a blessing! We used to do anywhere from 5-10 pages.. up hill both ways, in the snow, with holes in our shoes!!
Go ahead...make my day, oh wait you just did. I love Prof Trek emails from students. LOL
Three pages? And a test? Why that's outrageous what with spring coming and all those end-of-semester parties looming! However will the poor students manage to get all that done?????
Probably parents will be picketing your office in the morning. Be prepared.
Makes you a bit afraid of our future, if these are the people that will be running our country at some point!!
I have a similar reaction when I see misspelled words in papers posted at my job. For crying out loud, we have
SPELLCHECK!!!! Makes me embarrassed for my co-workers, and ashamed as well.
I teach piano in a "ahem" university - not that you could tell by my students. At the beginning of the semester I gave them an complete outline of what had to be learned and when. Guess what? It's STILL taking them by surprise when I refuse to hear anything that isn't memorized. You should read some of their facebook status reports. I guess they forget that they've "friended" me.
As a student (again) I'm totally hare brained (byoing byoing) myself sometimes, of course I don't lose the syllabus or the instructions, but I did find myself texting my instructor the day before a LONG assignment was due to clarify something. Thank God she likes me LOL
