SJ crews

These are the socks that I designed and knit for the Neatnik while we were on vacation. They are for her to wear with her new school uniform. The children wear navy walking shorts and light blue polo shirts in the fall and in the spring. Crew socks look better with shorts than knee socks, in my humble opinion, so here we have a pair of navy blue crew socks for school.

SJ Crew Sock
You'll notice that there is a bright red stripe near the toe of the sock. This is totally intentional. After all of the work that I put into a pair of socks for school use only, I don't want to have to toss them as soon as Neatnik has a growth spurt. When her foot grows, I shall unravel the toes, remove the red yarn, and lengthen the foot before reknitting the toe. There is plenty of leftover blue yarn for a longer sock and the ribbing in the instep will provide extra room around.

Ooo, very nice sockies! I thought the red was there as a sort of silent protest against uniforms.

=)

I like it that Neatnik gets to bring a little of Mommy Trek to school on SJ Crew Sock day! She'll probably like having you there, too...

What a great idea. I thought the red line was a style feature. I was admiring the work of putting in one line of another color just for looks. And you say it has a purpose! Go you, very clever.

Really clever! I'll have to keep the toe idea in the back of my mind.

doh! Wish I had thought of your toe/ribbed instep idea. I could probably still do it, but the instep is kind of narrow.

Brilliant idea tho.
