A Chipper!Little Chipper Socks
A very basic sock with racing stripes along the sides.

Size
child's foot (9)

Materials
1 skein Cascade Fixation
one set of size 2 dpns

Gauge
38 st over 4" in St st on size 2 needles

Rib Pattern
[P1, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p4, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p1] 2x

A Chipper!Leg Pattern
[K11, p4, k11] 2x

Foot Pattern
K13, p2, k22, p2, k13

Cuff and Leg
Cast on 52 sts. Join.
Work 12 rounds Rib Pattern.
Work 24 rounds Leg Pattern.

Heel Flap (26 sts)
K13. Turn.
Sl1, p25. Turn.

Row 1 - *Sl1, k1*
Row 2 - Sl1, p25
Work heel flap for 15 repeats (30 rows).

Turn Heel
Sl1, k15, ssk, k1, turn
Sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn
Sl1, k6, ssk, k1, turn
etc.

Ankle Join
Sl1, k15. Pick up 17 sts along side of heel flap for gusset. Knit instep stitches in pattern Pick up 17 sts along side of heel flap for gusset. K8.

Next round, k22, p2, k22, p2, k25

Gussets
Round 1 - Knit
Round 2 -
Needle 1 - Knit up to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Needle 2 - P2, k11
Needle 3 - K11, p2
Needle 4 - K1, ssk, knit to end of needle
Work gusset decreases for 13 repeats. Each needle now has 12 sts.

Foot
Work Foot Pattern for about 20 rounds.
Knit two rounds even.

Toe Shaping
Round 1 -
Needle 1 - Knit up to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2
Needle 2 - K2, ssk, knit to end of needle
Needle 3 - Knit up to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2
Needle 4 - K2, ssk, knit to end of needle
Round 2 - Knit.

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until 24 sts rem.

Repeat round 1 three more times, until 12 sts rem.
Next, [k2tog, k2, ssk] 2x. (8 sts rem)

Put the sts from needles 1 and 2 on one needle.
Do the same for the sts from needles 3 and 4.

Slip the outermost st from each end of each needle over its inside neighbor.
You now have a total of 4 sts (2 on each needle). Graft rem sts.
