I know that some of you have or have had small children and some do not. Those who don't, please bear with me for I must share this little golden moment.
This morning, after I fed the DD her breakfast, I sat down at the keyboard to read my mail. My Jaywalker was sitting on my desk and since I have on my slippers but no socks, it was a perfect opportunity to check the length of the foot. So, I pulled out the sock and laid it on my left foot (the longer one) to check how the fit is looking. I was afraid that it might be a mite wide in the instep: I picked up three more stitches than the pattern requests and just extended the gussets by reducing them in pattern rather than doing extra decreases in the first round or so. So when I laid it on the foot, I was wrapping it around to the sole and discovered that it probably isn't too wide at all and that I have about an inch or so in pattern until I am ready for the toe shaping. Sweet.
At this point, DD, who has a cold and is staying home from preschool today, wandered over and said to me, "That's your yarn sock."
"Yes, dear, that is my yarn sock. Do you like it?"
This exchange was followed up by a definitive "Yes!" and then, "It has white and grey and brown." She has known her colors for quite some time and delights in reminding us of this little fact.
"That's so good, sweetie! It is white and grey and brown."
"Mommy, that's a wonderful yarn sock."
Update: I finished this tonight and this is the most comfortable sock I've knit so far! It fits perfectly and feels just wonderful on my foot!

What a sweet story **sobbing** I'll post progress as soon as I stop going crazy. I've got about 2 or 3 inches to go before I start the toe. Since I'm doing 2 at once the progress feels slower =(
It IS a wonderful yarn sock! Looks great. Thanks.
Wow the sock looks great! I'll have to try this pattern again.
No worries about my other sock - the pattern moves so fast that I'm already at the heel flap!
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Knitnthings, wow, you really are moving along on that sock. Are you bringing it today?
Great yarn sock!!!!
